Pros
- Eventually XIII comes out, which I ignore for years and years, and finally see it for $5 so I say what the heck and I absolutely adored it and swear by
- Rating: 7.5/10 (Good) The good here far outweighed the bad for me as I really liked this party of characters and their messy relationships, the paradigm battle system, the focused linearity, and the over-arching world.
- Combat is great and I don't mind some change that for once there is small cast and not lot to explore, got plenty of games with opposite, not everything needs to be same.
- The stagger and paradigm systems are definitely great, and it's easy to see from the start that there is a lot of depth to explore there. In particular, I really liked how a lot of the bosses are also susceptible to the status effects.
- I enjoyed how linear it is. Sometimes you just don't want to scour a city to talk to the right npc.
Cons
- I wanted to like the game but it was a struggle to get through. The game really feels like it had a lot of heart and soul poured into it but it never reaches the heights it should have because of how the exploration, combat, and storytel...
- I loved the combat (probably the best mainline FF combat system), loved the world, couldn't stand the characters.
- Came back to it this year on Steam, installed graphics mods, really got it ready to go and then was just... so... bored by the gameplay loop. ... The combat system has depth, but because the enemies are sponges for damage, combat takes s...
- I've always enjoyed 13 for the most part, but I always forget it even has a Cid lol. Nowhere near my favorite FF or anything, but The Promise has always been one of the more memorable FF songs for me.
- When I tell people XIII is my favorite I quickly agree that the story is bad, it's the worst Cid FF has ever seen, and I don't know why the footsteps were recorded so loudly. The Stagger and Paradigm systems are still my favorite modern...

I wanted to like the game but it was a struggle to get through. The game really feels like it had a lot of heart and soul poured into it but it never reaches the heights it should have because of how the exploration, combat, and storytelling are kneecapped.

Came back to it this year on Steam, installed graphics mods, really got it ready to go and then was just... so... bored by the gameplay loop. ... The combat system has depth, but because the enemies are sponges for damage, combat takes so much longer than it should, even with your roles set up appropriately. It just feels like a slog. ... All in all, I think FFXIII could have worked out incredibly well as an animation or something to that effect. The art direction is fantastic. ... the animation in the MANY cutscenes are gorgeous.

When I tell people XIII is my favorite I quickly agree that the story is bad, it's the worst Cid FF has ever seen, and I don't know why the footsteps were recorded so loudly. The Stagger and Paradigm systems are still my favorite modern FF combat ever made.
I enjoyed how linear it is. Sometimes you just don't want to scour a city to talk to the right npc.
