It seems to me everything Fiji is sympathy hyped. Recently flew Fiji airways with layover in Nadi for 7 hours. Didn’t even bother leaving the airport. Everything just felt dirty primitive and expensive.
Fiji by a mile but 3 weeks is a long time.
I’m taking him at 5 to Italy(venice&Dolomites), Spain, South Africa, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Vietnam and Chile(Patagonia).
But I've known quite a few people who have been and they all dmsay it's absolutely amazing. Apparently the locals are very friendly and easy to get along with.
We went to Fiji and Vanuatu with ours at similar ages. Still worked out cheaper than going to Queensland or somewhere in Aus.
You can take a flight from Australia to Fiji for a couple of days then directly to Los Angeles/Dallas. There's a beach strip with relatively cheaper hotels that are more chill.
Can't go wrong with Fiji in fact I'd recommend to go on a day trip in the Mamanucas.
if you are just considering Bali, id say go to Fiji.
