FiiO KA11
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The FiiO KA11 is a highly regarded portable DAC/AMP dongle praised for delivering significantly more power than standard adapters like the Apple dongle at a budget-friendly price point. While it is celebrated for its ability to drive demanding IEMs and many over-ear headphones, users frequently highlight concerns regarding its fixed cable durability and high power draw from mobile devices.
Pros
- High power output (200mW @ 32Ω) for a compact dongle
- Excellent value-to-performance ratio at the $30-$40 price range
- Noticeable improvement in audio quality and volume over standard onboard audio
- Capable of driving planar headphones like the Sundara or efficient Sennheiser models
Cons
- Fixed, non-replaceable cable creates a single point of failure for durability
- High battery drain on connected mobile devices due to its power output
- May struggle to provide enough headroom for high-impedance (250Ω+) headphones, especially with EQ
Caveats
- Uses Cirrus Logic chips which some users associate with Dynamic Range Enhancement (DRE) issues
- Reliability is a point of contention with some reports of early hardware failure
- The device can run warm and consume significant mobile battery life
Best for
- Users upgrading from basic smartphone dongles on a budget
- Driving IEMs and moderately efficient over-ear headphones
- Portable setups where a small footprint is prioritized over a detachable cable
Avoid if
- You require a detachable cable for long-term durability
- You are using very high-impedance headphones (250Ω or higher)
- You are concerned about maximizing your phone's battery life during long listening sessions
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~386 days), suggesting that while the hardware remains relevant, users should check for more recent firmware updates regarding chip-specific behaviors.

KA11 will be more than fine power wise, although it is not known for reliability. It is also assumed to be mildly affected by issues with Cirrus Logic chips, but it should not be an audible concern for you
The KA11 is on the mentioned Cirrus Logic chip + there are too many reports of failures, so imo at the very least it shouldn't be bought until there is a firmware which turns DRE off (Dynamic Range Enhancement, pricier KA15 just got such update). Also KA11 has a bit high battery drain since it is one of the most powerful dongles, and you don't really need such for DT900 Pro X.
those would be $30 FiiO KA11 and JCAlly JM20 Max.
The alternative is $30 (yet again AliExpress price) FiiO KA11 dongle. This dongle will work instead of the integrated onboard audio, and aside providing more power to the headphones, might also improve the quality of the output.
For Sennheisers you might want $30 FiiO KA11
Parent context: I'm not an expert by any means, but I'd consider looking into the KA11 or KA13. From what I've seen, they still measure well and provide enough power that you won't feel it's lacking. Reply: They’re not durable at all. I know from first hand experience
Doesn’t change the fact that the headphone sounds better with a Fiio KA11 or a Schitt Stack.
yeah, you'd also be fine with a cheaper DAC/AMP dongle solution like the apple usbc to 3.5mm dongle, fiio ja11 or ka11, or a TRN black pearl, then running a USB-C cable from the PC to the dongle for clean routing.
FYI the FiiO KA11 is technically a great device with more power (23 mW at 300 ohms) versus something like a Apple dongle (3.6 mW) and has good SNR.
I would suggest yes a DAC/AMP combo can improve your experience but not KA11, KA11 doesn’t have good power to drive 250 ohm headphone good.
