It's funny, I know that New Vegas felt like the better game, but Fallout 3 had better bits and pieces that I desperately wish were in Vegas. The violin side quest and resulting radio station, building jank weapons out of junk, Megaton.
As a player introduced into the series with Fallout 3, both became my favourites. I find 1 & 2 more immersive than 3d counterparts and this really fascinates me.

i think i’ll be finishing Fallout 3 replay pretty soon. what surprised me is that it’s much emptier that i remember quest-wise. like locations have stories to them, etc, but from ~40 hours i spent so far, i was just mostly aimlessly running around and collecting deathclaw hands as souvenirs. though, it kind of made all the quests much more memorable.

For reference I have played and beat FO3 and Nee Vegas in the past and had a good time with both.
