• And I'd maybe look at the Evergoods CTB20
• Maybe an Evergoods CTB20 or 26 if you’re used to a 33L bag. Has a killer laptop compartment, luggage pass through, all the organization you could want plus two external water bottle pockets.
• If it’s class + clinical, maybe the Evergoods CTB20? It’s kind of thick depth-wise, but does a decent job self-standing.
• My two night bag is a CTB20.

Cons

• Parent context: I like my CTB, but the straps on Evergoods are meh. Reply: I need to accept that they don't work for me and sell my CTB. I've had it for two years and it absolutely wrecks my upper back.
• The rework toshi and the Evergoods CTB20 or 26 might also be good alternatives.
• The Evergoods CTB20 seems to have a lot of features that tick a lot of what you need, except that it has a clamshell-based design.

• I have the CTB20 and regret it. Harness feels like it does not distribute weight properly, and the laptop access being on the side is annoying, as is the whole backpack needing to go horizontal to slide onto a suitcase.
