Epic Games Store
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Epic Games Store is predominantly viewed by users as a service for claiming free games rather than a primary gaming platform. While appreciated for its weekly giveaways, the store faces significant criticism for its user interface, lack of community features, and technical limitations compared to established competitors like Steam.
Pros
- Frequent high-quality free game giveaways
- Provides market competition against other major storefronts
Cons
- Poor UI/UX that users find painful to navigate
- Lack of native controller support, often requiring users to launch Epic through Steam
- Missing standard features such as user reviews, achievements, and guides
- Slow launcher startup times and high resource usage
- Controversial exclusivity deals that are perceived as anti-consumer by some users
- Storefront feels 'lonely' or 'spartan' due to a lack of social and community integration
Caveats
- Custom middleware for Epic integrations has been reported to break during updates
- Some mentions in the data refer to the 'Epic Pass' for skiing/snowboarding, which is a separate entity from the game store
Best for
- Claiming free weekly games
- Playing titles that are exclusive to the platform
Avoid if
- You prioritize a feature-rich social ecosystem and community guides
- You require seamless native controller support without third-party workarounds
- You prefer a fast, streamlined launcher experience
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~307 days), which may not reflect the most recent software updates for this fast-changing app service.

It is obvious that on epic 99% of people get the game and never play it. It just felt so lonely.
Parent context: Let be real, the main problem with Epic is the UI and UX It's really painful to navigate the launcher. On top of that, they promote Unreal Engine and other things related to epic there too. The user who like games don't like all the extra developer stuff and vice versa Just compare the main Steam page and the main Epic Store page, night and day in presentation I guess some people use Steam as … Reply: think you underestimate steam a bit with that How about, - reviews - achievements - controller support - SteamOS - Guides and theres a shitton more that probaply only a small percentage use But epic cant even get the basics like UX down so yeah
If you built a hardware platform around Epic, it would feel extremely spartan and empty.

Epic is more like a game giveaway service than a shop. Never spent a dollar there but have like 100+ games if gotten for free
Starting marketplace without shopping cart is baffling. Like opening shop without shelves. Just a bunch of boxes with no labels.
Fr, from all the anticompetitive shit that Epics done while accusing Valve of being Anticomp to all the missing store feature and how it literally takes longer than steam to start up with less overall features, the AI thing is far divorced from the main reason why people hate Epic
Other DRMs that try to insert themselves between Steam and the Game (Rockstar, Epic, Ubisoft) do nothing but piss me off and make me groan when I boot up these games
Thanks Tim! I was looking for another excuse to stay away from Epic.
Did some research, learned that Epic doesn't have native controller support! We have to load Epic THROUGH STEAM to get the controller to work. It was really stupid.
