Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

EndeavourOS is frequently described as a user-friendly gateway to Arch Linux, providing a graphical installer while maintaining a minimalistic, "bare bones" philosophy. Users appreciate its balance between command-line power and graphical convenience, though it retains the inherent complexity and maintenance requirements of an Arch-based rolling release.

Pros

  • Provides a graphical installer for Arch Linux, simplifying the setup process.
  • Minimalistic default installation with very little running at boot.
  • Flexible interface that allows users to switch between CLI and GUI workflows.
  • Strong hardware compatibility, including out-of-the-box support for laptop features like keyboard backlights.
  • Access to the extensive Arch Linux software repositories.

Cons

  • Updates via pacman can occasionally introduce system issues that require manual troubleshooting.
  • Steep learning curve for users who are not comfortable with terminal-heavy environments.
  • Requires a proactive approach to system maintenance and documentation (RTFM).

Caveats

  • While the installer is graphical, the OS itself still requires the user to manage a rolling-release system which can be 'borked' by user error or update conflicts.
  • Some users report that frequent updates can lead to recurring problems if not managed carefully.

Best for

  • Users who want the benefits of Arch Linux without the manual installation process.
  • Those seeking a lightweight and minimalistic desktop environment.
  • Intermediate Linux users looking for a 'smooth and reliable' rolling-release experience.

Avoid if

  • You prefer a 'set it and forget it' operating system with long-term stability.
  • You are unwilling to use the command line or read technical documentation to solve problems.
  • You want a highly curated, feature-heavy experience out of the box.

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 390 days, which may not reflect the most recent software updates or repository changes in this fast-changing distribution.

Yeah I have considered something like EndeavourOS or Fedora, but the fan less MacBook seems like a real win

If gaming isn't a prioriy, EndeavorOS might be good for you. It's based in Arch.

CachyOS or EndeavourOS are both much more user-friendly than plain Arch, but they're still Arch

One thing that makes EndeavourOS friendlier is it does a lot of the configuring and setup for you on the install, so you don't have to be dealing with installing and configuring your desktop environment, audio servers, bluetooth, or basic utilities yourself. It's like a version of Arch that works out of the box

Maybe you'd like EndeavourOS. It's a friendlier Arch-based distro that gives you access to the AUR, which will likely have every program you want. It has Minecraft and OpenCode.

Im using niri [and Noctalia] with endeavor OS. ... Endeavor OS is just a pre-built arch OS... which already uses KDE but I swapped it with niri

Didn't use EndeavourOS but as I heard on reddit it is not as easy. I see no reason to choose EndeavourOS tbh

Endeavour is a more clean ready-to-get-to-work vibe where you do all that yourself.
