Pros
- I have a bottle of C923 I haven't opened, but my brother did a side-by-side and said C920 and C923 were pretty comparable.
- This is an excellent batch of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, very close to the top of our rankings of ECBP, we would place it right around the same level as Batch C923
- C923 only pulled an 8.75 average and it's a different league.
- Very high praise to compare it to C923!
- I poured it against C923 and I can definitely tell the difference.
Cons
- I don’t think C923 is actually as mind-blowing as we’ve lead ourselves to believe. I don’t think it’s better than great batches in recent memory - and certainly not the old pirate bottles.
- Across these three tastings, C923 scored an average of about 8.5, whether I guessed its identity or not. I think that’s about right. It’s not incredible, and it doesn’t quite match up with my older favorite ECBP batches. But it’s an abso...

923 is a rich powerhouse pour and 123 has that dark fruit note than makes me think of a good Stagg with more age. These are both buy and back it up bottles.

Finish & Body: barrel-aged maple syrup with blueberries, blackberries, & cinnamon wowyes | rich oak & barrel char | mild eucalyptus | dark chocolate. Body is syrupy & pretty hefty. The finish is velvety - and shockingly syrupy & voluminous. Excellent. Score: 8.6 | Excellent
When I cracked the seal and huffed the resulting C923 vapors, I was immediately enamored. Those feelings persisted as I worked my way through the neck of the bottle.
