I think this tells you all you need to know about recent releases of ECBP. $70 for a 10+ year old cask strength bourbon n from a legacy distiller, and it’s sitting on shelves? There’s probably a reason.
Short of it being barrel proof, any recent ECBP’s aren’t in the same ballpark IMO. They’re brash, nutty, the proof is evident via astringency, compared to the fruity and sweet profile I get from Blanton’s, especially SFTB.
This one is a powerhouse. To me it brings everything a high quality barrel proof should. It's probably my favorite ecbp that I have in my collection.
That I've tried? Weller cypb although a stagg jr was close.
Since C923, there hasn't really been a great ECBP, and I think that's starting to catch up with the brand.
Despite the fact that we feel that the value of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof has been eroding bit by bit over the past few years (younger age statements, less complexity, and slightly increasing prices), this bourbon still scores an above average 'value rating' from us.
