Elektron Octatrack

Pros

• Not a synth but octatrack has a good arp editor
• Octatrack is the most recent acquisition, and I still don't know what the hell I'm doing with that, but I've somewhat gotten the hang of sampling and EZBOT's Hyper FX template (so rad btw if you have one).
• For now, the octatrack works great as a drum machine, but its definitely limited bc its also processing the audio from the virus.
• If you're looking for a proper command center for your setup, you should be aiming higher. Elektron stuff like the Octatrack or Digitakt has way more depth and flexibility.
• From owning one, it has one hell of a learning curve but when it clicks it's extremely fun. It's one of the top shelf samplers that become very handy, especially for live application

Cons

• Octatrack only does 8 sample tracks and is not that intuitive as a drum machine. Has all the MIDI sequencing of Digitakt though.
• Masking tape and a sharpie works great for labels, just look at anyone with an octatrack.
• Parent context: Ok, but if you buy an octatrack 404 or whatever that will also have the dreaded, nightmare screen on it, except it'll be a tiny oled display instead of a PC monitor. Reply: Thanks, I think I will try with Koala.
• Used 1st gen Octatrack a have come down in price a lot but be prepared to deal with bugs. Mine’s kinda buggy, anyway.
• in the future I want to buy a sampler/sequencer (probably an octatrack) and I would like it to play at the same time I use the rest of my instruments
