Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Electrolux maintains a polarized reputation, primarily split between nostalgia for its highly durable 'vintage' tank vacuums and skepticism toward its modern lineup. While newer models are praised for contemporary features like LED headlamps, automatic suction, and sleek designs, many enthusiasts in the vacuum community argue that build quality has declined since the brand changed hands. Outside of floor care, the brand is occasionally noted for high-capacity refrigerators, though it is often ranked a tier below premium 'Buy It For Life' brands.

Pros

  • LED lights on vacuum heads significantly improve dirt visibility
  • Automatic suction adjustment provides convenience on hard floors
  • Modern, futuristic designs with large wheels for easy maneuverability
  • Large vacuum bag capacity
  • Handle-mounted controls allow for easy manual adjustments
  • Highly regarded large-capacity refrigerators (500L+)

Cons

  • Perceived decline in long-term durability compared to older 'tank' models
  • Reports of newer units beginning to break down after the first year
  • Automatic suction sensors can be inconsistent on thick carpets
  • Higher price point compared to some mainstream competitors

Caveats

  • The vacuum division has changed ownership, leading to a distinct difference in quality between legacy and current products
  • Automatic suction is viewed by some users as a sales gimmick rather than a necessary feature

Best for

  • Users who value modern tech features like LED lighting and handle-based vacuum controls
  • Those looking for large-capacity, Thailand-made refrigerators
  • Owners of older Electrolux models looking for a similar aesthetic in a modern machine

Avoid if

  • You are specifically looking for the 'Buy It For Life' durability associated with vintage Electrolux vacuums
  • You prefer simple, manual machines without electronic sensors or 'gimmicks'

Hi all - so my parents and I have been long-time Electrolux vacuum owners. Not the newer ones, but the older ones that were like deluxe tanks.

Any 1970s or 1980s model (once the hose is replaced) will be a wonderful, stylish, long-lasting performer. You can even get the "Sidekick" motorized compact power brush for stubborn pet hair on carpeted stairs and upholstered furniture.

Electrolux canisters are very good. Durable and good suction. Hepa bags are available.

You have access to the Electrolux line up in Sweden (Pure 500, Pure 500XL, Pure 600, etc.) They are very well-rated, are well-priced, have well-priced replacement filters, and have good specs.

Parent context: Wait, is this a compliment or a bad review? Reply: A compliment! Mom has my grandma’s old one and it’s great. I use it to clean out my car.

Those were made out of metal, not plastic. The flexible tube was much sturdier than what you get today, even on luxury models. You couldn't crush it.
