Pros
- P.S. I also love Elder Race.
- Really enjoyed it. One story told from two very different perspectives. You have an anthropologist who is there to observe the descendants of an old Earth colony and the inhabitant who thinks of him as a magician.
- I loved Elder Race and The Saint of Bright Doors but the Hugo discussions were good for those
- I just finished up this one as well, loved it. This is my first Tchaikovsky, and if this is indicative of his work as a whole then I think I'm going to enjoy diving into his prolific catalogue of writings.
- I agree with you about Elder Race, it's an excellent book and one of my favourites from Tchaikovsky.
Cons
- Okay, but didn’t blow me away: * Elder Race

This is my second Tchaikovsky novella and once again he blends sci-fi and fantasy with ridiculous ease. He moves between the two so beautifully - it really works. ... All in all, another reminder of why Tchaikovsky is so good at the novella form: interesting ideas, tight execution, little wasted space.
Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky (about a far future scientist posted in a tower watching a space colony that doesn't know about Science... manages to have a happy ending)
ELDER RACE by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Novella might be a better word. It's very short and very readable. The characters were charming and I was invited to ask the question, "Is science magic?"
it's still Elder Race for me, not that i disliked any of his other stuff... but Elder Race is just fucking brilliant, it's so genius in concept and execution in every paragraph.
