Ursula K. Le Guin: Earthsea cycle

I’m going to recommend Ursula K LeGuin’s Earthsea Cycle This is actually the first “magic university” to my knowledge- *A Wizard of Earthsea* came out in 1968. There are 6 books, the writing is fantastic, way way beyond anything Rowling could muster. To me the writing feels clear and modern and also ancient at the same time.

I stand by the Earthsea Cycle as the best work of fantasy I've ever read. Every book in the series is excellent.

Le Guin comes to mind, try the Earthsea cycle. The first one is YA, but the prose is gorgeous, the character work is amazing and it only gets better from there.

The Earthsea cycle is a particularly interesting meta-lens on being a woman writer. She wrote the initial trilogy in the 60s/70s (and they are wonderful)

Otherwise, I’d say anything by Ursula LeGuin, (but especially the Earthsea Cycle)

The whole series is incredible. Tehanu is my favorite, though.

The Earthsea cycle is my favourite fantasy series of all time. Nobody does it like she does it imo. The depth of her characters, what she can accomplish in such a short page count, her prose.

Just finished listening to the audiobooks of the Earthsea Cycle, and I’m struck all over again by what a truly great writer Le Guin was and how fantastic this series is. I’d read and listened to the original trilogy but this was my first time all the way through #6 with The Other Wind. I think the series as a whole is now solidly in my top ten personal favorite fiction series of all time.
