Dyson V15 Detect
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Dyson V15 Detect is widely praised for its industry-leading suction and the 'detect' laser feature that makes dust and pet hair highly visible. While it is considered a top-tier cordless option for hard floors and mixed surfaces, users frequently highlight its premium price and the significant battery drain when used in high-power modes.
Pros
- Exceptional suction power that outperforms older models like the V8
- Laser/light technology effectively reveals hidden dust and pet hair
- Smart sensors that automatically adjust suction power based on floor type
- High-quality filtration system that resists clogging
- Lightweight and maneuverable for its size, making it ideal for daily quick cleans
Cons
- Very expensive compared to competitors and even other Dyson models
- Battery life is limited, lasting as little as 10 minutes in Boost/Turbo mode
- High suction can make the vacuum physically difficult to push across thick or tight-knit area rugs
- Hair still tangles on the brushroll, requiring manual maintenance
Caveats
- May not fully replace a corded vacuum for deep-cleaning long-pile or heavily soiled carpets
- The high suction power has been reported to cause back strain for some users on specific rug types
- Some reports of battery failure shortly after the warranty period expires
Best for
- Hardwood and LVP flooring
- Pet owners who need to track fur and dander
- Daily maintenance and quick cleanups in large homes
Avoid if
- You have a home dominated by thick, high-pile carpeting
- You are on a strict budget
- You need long runtimes on maximum power settings

I have a dyson detect as my every day vacuum and I love that thing for hard floors, but since moving it can't do much for the longer carpets here. Also there seems to be sand and baking soda embedded in these carpets?? They feel gritty to me and every time I vacuum with this, my dyson fills up. I can use the whole battery on maybe 4sqft of carpet and there's more when I go back.
The Dyson V15 Detect blows the suction of my old V8 Animal out of the water, even at its peak. And the filter has never clogged.
I just got a refurbished Dyson V15 Detect for $450 CAD (regular $999 CAD new, although it's $799 CAD right now). Unused, works great, probably a return.
I'm a happy owner of a Dyson V12 Detect
Dyson V15 Detect is one of the best cordless vacuums, powerful suction on carpets and hard floors, smart sensor technology that automatically adjusts power, and it is surprisingly light for its size. Great for large homes and long cleaning sessions.
The V15 Detect, though, is awesome.
I have the Dyson V12 Detect and recently acquired the Dyson Gen5 Detect. The Dysons work really well and can replace a corded vacuum
For allergies and mixed flooring, a high‑end dry vacuum like the Miele Complete C3 Marin or Dyson V15 Detect is excellent—both trap fine dust and protect hardwood while handling rugs.
I currently have a Dyson V12 detect and vacuum everyday. I don’t love the idea of the robot vacuums because in my experience they aren’t great, get tangled in everything, and I would need three of them.
I love my Dyson V15 detect- idk how great of a vacuum it is - but the detect laser had had my wife vacuuming every night for the last year because it brings her joy.
