I had the same experience - I liked them a lot but they are far too heavy. My neck was in pain for almost a week after 3hrs of use on one day so I decided to sell them.
I've tried some ANC Headphones, including the Dyson Ontrac, Px8, Bathys, HDB 630, Momentum 4 and the AKG n9 and the AKG is the one I enjoyed the most and that stayed.
I had and liked them but they are very heavy so I would not even think to use them for a gym. And the weight was the reason to sell them again.

Sound: It’s fine. Honestly anything compared to Sony feels like a downgrade to me, but I just felt like the audio wasn’t as clear as I wanted. ... Another weird thing with the sound was some weird interaction with the noise cancelling and my hand brushing a specific part of the headset. I’ve noticed on my Sony headset if I brushed the side, sometimes it would be pretty loud since it’d cut through the noise cancelling, but for some reason the Ontrac’s was so loud it would almost hurt a little.
Though something funky *is* going on with the headset, since the wired connection wouldn’t work on my iPhone either. I had to reset the device completely before it worked on my phone, but I’d only use Bluetooth on my phone anyway, so that was only to confirm that the headphones themselves weren’t defective. This is the other reason I’m returning them, since I really need that wired connection for my PC.
If the cost is going to be as much or more than Sony, then the above issues just don’t make it worth imo.
