Dutch oven

I have not touched my slow cooker since I got my Dutch oven. I can brown the meat in the pan, saute any vegetables in the oil and fond, then do the braise, all in one pot. Since mine is enameled, cleanup is super easy. I also feel like the flavor is better.

And definitely getting myself a Dutch oven…. I wasn’t sold before when all I could think of was chill but now that you’ve mentioned cobbler and biscuits… im sold.

For example, if it’s doing something different with food (assuming not backpacking), then maybe a Dutch oven to do baking? Doing a cobbler at night, or biscuits in the morning can be quick and easy and elevate a camping experience.

I use a Dutch oven for tea smoking. It's arguably better than a wok and lid!

A Dutch oven is merely a cast iron pot that’s glazed in a ceramic coating. It can literally handle ANY temperature your oven can muster. They also have heavy lids that create a nice tight seal to keep moisture inside the pot.

I braise (slow cook in liquid at low heat) in my Dutch oven so I guess I could use it rather than a slow cooker

Take a Dutch oven camping. They are so versatile. Great for one pot meals. Envy of the campsite on a bad day.

A good Dutch oven. You can bake, fry, braise, and do normal stovetop all in the same pot. I love mine.
