AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X is generally received as a modernized version of the classic DT 770 Pro, featuring updated drivers and a long-requested detachable cable. It maintains a distinct V-shaped sound signature with emphasized bass and treble, which makes it a popular choice for gaming and immersive media. However, it remains polarizing due to its 'bright' high-end, which some users find fatiguing or piercing, and mixed opinions on whether its tuning is a definitive upgrade over the original model or the 700 Pro X.

Pros

  • Detachable cable system, a significant functional upgrade over the original DT 770 Pro
  • Strong imaging and soundstage performance for a closed-back design, particularly beneficial for gaming
  • Punchy, energetic bass response that is well-suited for EDM and hip-hop
  • High overall build quality and comfort, featuring a well-regarded headband design

Cons

  • Treble can be 'spicy' or sibilant, causing ear fatigue for those sensitive to high frequencies
  • Shallow earcups may cause the inner mesh to press uncomfortably against the user's ears
  • The included 10-foot cable is often described as cumbersome for non-studio use
  • Recessed midrange can make vocals sound thin or distant compared to more neutral headphones

Caveats

  • Tuning is strictly V-shaped; users seeking a flat or neutral response for critical mixing may find the bass and treble too emphasized
  • Subjective reports on sound clarity are contradictory, with some users finding it 'muddy' compared to the 700 Pro X while others call it an improvement over the original 770

Best for

  • Gaming and watching movies where soundstage and imaging are prioritized
  • Casual listening to bass-heavy music genres
  • Users who want the classic Beyerdynamic aesthetic and durability with a detachable cable

Avoid if

  • You are highly sensitive to bright treble or 'piercing' high notes
  • You require a neutral or mid-forward sound signature for vocal-heavy tracks or production
  • You have larger or protruding ears that might touch the shallow internal drivers

770 pro x is like 700 pro x but with worse tuning, it's muddy, not as clear even tho it uses the same internals

I would for the 770 pro x over the original 770. It's a much better tuned headphone imo

Parent context: The bass isn't good and the high are bad, and can be very sharp and loud Reply: There is some sibilance but thats only if you are bothered by treble peaks. There are tons of people who like it and personally I dont find it an issue when I got the chance to hear it.

620s - not so spicy in trebles, more „airy”, generally more balanced and refined sound than 770

Cap. It's great for gaming. Probably the best in its price range.

I also have a DT 770 Pro X (but the limited edition version), and find the midrange to be too thin-sounding. FT1 beats DT 770 at everything but soundstage, in my opinion.

Plus one - 770 Pro X is so bright I couldn’t even EQ it and gave me headaches after 15-30 minutes.

Starting with the build, they're light and have a really nice headband. The earcups are super comfortable but shallow, so they squish my ears a fair bit. The included cable is honestly pretty bad and it's 10' long so it really gets in the way. For sound quality, I found it very solid, punchy bass that isn't muddy at all. Mids and treble sound fine but when comparing them to a neutral headphone like the FT1 Pro, you realize how bright they are. The vocals are a little recessed when compared to neutral as well. Overall very solid, but it doesn't feel like they quite nice enough for their price.

I love the sound profile of the headphones, but don’t love how the inner mesh touches my ear.
