AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Dingle is widely considered a premier destination in Ireland, frequently cited as a highlight for its scenic coastal beauty and vibrant traditional music scene. Most travelers describe it as a charming, "must-see" waterfront town, though a small minority feel the significant driving time required to reach it may not be worth an extended stay.

Pros

  • Stunning coastal scenery, particularly the Slea Head Drive
  • Excellent traditional ("trad") Irish music
  • Charming, small-town atmosphere on the water
  • Often cited as a top highlight of Irish travel itineraries

Cons

  • Requires a significant amount of driving to access
  • Some travelers feel the payoff is not worth a large time investment

Caveats

  • Opinions on stay duration are mixed, with recommendations ranging from a single night to multiple days.
  • Often compared to or paired with the Ring of Kerry; some prefer one over the other depending on specific activities like the Skellig boat trip.

Best for

  • Fans of traditional Irish music
  • Road trippers looking for scenic coastal drives
  • Travelers seeking a picturesque, small-town Irish experience

Avoid if

  • You are sensitive to long driving distances for relatively small destinations
  • You have a very limited schedule and prefer to stick to major hubs like Dublin

I visited Dingle separately but if there’s day tour to Dingle that’s worth a visit too. It’s a lovely little town on the water.

I would do a night in Dingle. I wouldn’t spend that long there. Maybe it’s just me, but I thought it was A LOT of driving for not enough payoff. Cute towns, pleasant experience, but not worth investing a ton of time on.

The dingle and Ring of Kerry days were our highlights of the trip. I think the only reason we’d do an extra day on the ring of Kerry tho was if we were doing the Skellig boat trip.

For that itinerary, consider flying into Dublin but immediately heading west to the Dingle Peninsula or Ring of Kerry for stunning coastal scenery and charming towns like Dingle or Kenmare.
