Desperation

Pros

• I really enjoyed it, but as often with King the ending isn't as good as the build up. Despite that, the ideas and images are some of his best and it'd probably just about scrape into my top ten of his books.

• I strongly preferred Desperation, but Regulators is fun to read right after it.
• the whole how excused early slip ended up with marinville is very fascinating at the end.

Cons

• I read The Regulators first and I liked it more than Desperation.
• Not bad, but also not his best. I think there’s a lot more that could’ve been done with it. The end kind of fell flat for me.
• Because he's a genius, it works 90% of the time. But sometimes it doesn't and that's never more obvious than with this book, which has one of the most amazing opening scenes, when the kids get pulled over by the possessed cop, but has no...
• Mid tier. Some great moments and a really scary villain for the first half, but it’s also fairly plodding and the “just have faith and leave your fate in the hands of God” stuff gets a little old.
• I'm only left with the last few chapters, and I think It's a decent stephen king book but nowhere close to The Shining. Honestly, David's character development at the end feels very cynical.
