Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor - Metafictional literary sci-fi about publishing, afro-futurism and the first-gen immigrant experience

I'm reading it now. This book makes me want to read more of Nnedi Okorafor's books. Specifically, I like the tension between putting family first vs. putting the individual first.

I absolutely loved this. Not gonna lie, as a university lecturer, the beginning where she snaps and tells off her entitled asshole students spoke to my soul! I loved all three strands, the interviews, her life, and the robots, and I was definitely excited when I got to a robot chapter. And that ending, chef’s kiss.

Lots of memorable characters and strong emotions running through the entire book.

This is an incredibly well written novel that touches on a number of themes... The characters are some of the most real I've ever read - at some times you hate them, some times you love them. The family dynamics are at the heart of this. There are also some incredible emotional scenes

There is a lot going on in this. It's incredibly well written, and manages to mash together family drama, robot sci-fi, afro-futurism and a general musing on the nature of what it means to be a famous writer in the modern era. Incredibly narrated too.
