Pros

• Parent context: really enjoyed the first book years ago, couldn't get into the second. Reply: Yeah, if Deadhouse gates didn't move you, House of Chains won't land either... The emotional carry over from Deadhouse gates is pretty much bak...
• It’s worth it, however, as Erikson tells the story of ancient gods and feuding demons clashing across a vast continent. Chills and thrills are guaranteed.
• Deadhouse gates, Memories of Ice, House of Chains. Incredible stretch of books. Other parts of Malazan had me bored or confused at times. But during these three I was fully locked in.
• It is my second favourite Malazan book after Deadhouse Gates just because it's so focused on characters and their relationships
• I loved this one. It started off slow, and it took a while for me to care about all the new characters, but everything had a purpose to it. When I was reading The Chain of Dogs/Coltaine’s March, I knew this series was something special....

• Parent context: I finally had some of the names straight by the end...then book 2 threw a whole new cast at me. I DNF'd it after a few chapters and never went back. Reply: oh yeah. I find it funny when the diehard fans tell you that. >"...
