The beauty and variety of landscapes was awesome, history (especially in Chania), and amazing produce/seafood. People were really nice too
I went to crete for a week in late October and had an amazing time. We also spent one weekend in Athens. The weather was amazing but it was a tiny bit chilly/windy for the beaches when we went, so I'd take a look at averages if the beach part is essential. Again, we went late October. Early October is prob better. Crete has so many things to do and see, and the food is also incredible
Not on your list, but wife and I did Crete for a week and a half and I was blown away. Best food ive ever had and plenty of interesting history (you will find this anywhere in Greece OFC)
Crete without a shadow of a doubt. Beautiful Island with plenty to see, and everyone is supper friendly and accomodating towards children. Beaches are incredible and are all super-well equipped (bathrooms, beds with sunshades for a price, good food)...

We enjoyed Santorini and Crete. Crete is quite large. We rented a car for a few days to see more of the island. The ferry system is quite good and we had no problems visiting three islands. We found Mykonos to be very touristy. Crete has so much history to see. It was our favorite island.
