Pros

  • Everyone should use credit karma solely for convenient/free monitoring of TransUnion/Equifax reports in an app, nothing else
  • Personally its good for me, I know the BS and just care what the report says not the score not the offers.
  • If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend downloading Credit Karma, NerdWallet & Wallet Hub.

Cons

  • I do not recommend using Credit Karma for your score, but it’s a good tool to look at your credit report. It also does a good job at notifying of any changes.
  • I signed up for Credit Karma but I know their scores are not FICO and they only monitor two bureaus.
  • CK can be useful for getting updates on your TU and EQ reports, but there is so much BS that comes with it. The sheer amount of misinformation they give you means that 99.99% of people are going to have a very hard time sorting through i...
  • Indeed. CK is very problematic and I believe the credit world would be better off without it, as it causes much more harm than good.
  • So, Credit Karma once again shows itself to be crap. While it can be a great and free tool if you understand credit and how credit works. Today it recommended to me, that I replace my Citi Double Cash with a 10k limit with a Credit One c...

CK can be useful for getting updates on your TU and EQ reports, but there is so much BS that comes with it. The sheer amount of misinformation they give you means that 99.99% of people are going to have a very hard time sorting through it and figuring out what's real and what's not.

So, Credit Karma once again shows itself to be crap. While it can be a great and free tool if you understand credit and how credit works. Today it recommended to me, that I replace my Citi Double Cash with a 10k limit with a Credit One card, with a annual fee. This is so, financially illiterate it's bonkers.

Being an AU merely gets your foot in the door, and doesn't mean as much as any credit monitoring service or score might make it seem (also ignore places like Credit Karma, they're misleading you).

I first saw a note from credit karma that my account received a "significant demerit" and my score had dropped--by over 200 points.
