Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Bilt Rewards is primarily recognized for its unique ability to earn points on rent payments without transaction fees, making it a staple for renters in the credit card rewards community. It is highly valued for its travel transfer partners, particularly Hyatt, and its 3x rewards on dining. However, the service is frequently criticized for poor redemption rates on non-travel options like statement credits or Amazon purchases. There is also recurring skepticism among users regarding the long-term sustainability of its business model and the requirement to maintain a minimum number of monthly transactions to earn points.

Pros

  • Earns rewards points on rent payments without additional fees
  • Strong travel transfer partners, with Hyatt frequently cited as a top-tier option
  • Competitive 3x points on dining expenses
  • Provides 'World Elite' Mastercard benefits
  • App includes helpful 3D assembly models for specific consumer products

Cons

  • Poor redemption value for statement credits (0.5 cpp) and Amazon (0.75 cpp)
  • Requires at least 5 transactions per statement period to earn any points
  • Does not currently support mortgage payments
  • Occasional technical glitches with payment categorization and online status

Caveats

  • Points are significantly devalued if not transferred to travel partners
  • Users express concern that the current rewards structure may be unsustainable long-term
  • The card partnership and features may be subject to significant changes or transitions

Best for

  • Renters who want to earn travel rewards on their largest monthly expense
  • Travelers who frequently use Hyatt or other high-value transfer partners
  • Users who spend heavily on dining

Avoid if

  • You do not pay rent or you have a mortgage
  • You prefer simple cashback over managing travel transfer partners
  • You are unlikely to meet the 5-transaction monthly minimum

Parent context: So for example if I use Bilt points on Amazon I get 1 to 1? But if I redeem for statement credit I get less than 1 to 1? Reply: No, Bilt points shopping on Amazon is about 0.75 cpp. Statement credit is about 0.5

Bilt collects points which can be redeemed as statement credit or used on Amazon, but devalues points below 1cpp.

Most of us have the same 3 biggest expenses (other than housing if you can use Bilt, do it): Groceries, Dining, Gas, Misc.

When we got ours, I had read a tip about using an app called Bilt. It not only had the instructions to build it, but they were better than the OEM instructions and the steps each had a 3D model that could be zoomed in on. Helped incredibly because everyone looked shocked at me being able to assemble it so fast and solo.

I have the Bilt card and enjoy the points experience from it. There was a rough 1.5 year period it was my main card, and the points I earned on it were enough to cover my flights for just over a year.

Bilt is just giving away VC money to buy market share. Abuse it while you can but don't delude yourself that it could possibly last.
