AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) is a highly competitive, CPU-intensive shooter that receives mixed feedback regarding its optimization. While it can achieve high frame rates on modern hardware, users frequently report inconsistent performance, specifically regarding poor 1% lows that cause stuttering during matches. The game is heavily dependent on single-core CPU performance, often making the processor a more significant bottleneck than the GPU, even at higher resolutions.

Pros

  • High performance potential when paired with modern X3D processors
  • Remains playable on older mid-range hardware (e.g., 9th gen Intel/RTX 2060) at 1440p
  • Scales effectively with high single-core clock speeds

Cons

  • Frequent FPS drops during intense gameplay and 1v1 situations
  • Abysmal 1% lows leading to noticeable stuttering and a 'slow' feel
  • High system resource usage, with reports of CPU and RAM usage reaching 90-100%
  • Perceived as less optimized and less stable than its predecessor, CS:GO

Caveats

  • Heavily CPU-bound; upgrading the GPU may not improve performance if the CPU is the bottleneck
  • Background applications like Chrome or Discord can significantly impact memory stability and performance
  • Targeting extremely high refresh rates (360Hz to 600Hz) requires top-tier hardware that may still struggle to maintain stability

Best for

  • Competitive players with high-end CPUs (specifically AMD X3D series)
  • Users prioritizing low-latency gameplay over visual fidelity
  • Players with high-refresh-rate monitors who have the hardware to drive them

Avoid if

  • You are using an older or entry-level CPU
  • You are highly sensitive to micro-stutters and inconsistent frame delivery
  • You expect the same lightweight performance profile as CS:GO

The reason I want to get the 9850x3D processor is this: I have a 600Hz monitor and I want to exceed 600 FPS in CS2.

something i noticed today is if i play CS2 i’ll see my usage % upon loading to the game go to high 90-100% which i know from my old graphics card was never an issue.

I’ve have never played cs2 nor csgo.

I can get into the high 200s of FPS without freesync but my problem is the 1% lows for CS2 are abysmal. I would frequently drop well below that which makes the game stutter and feel slow.

I'd like to keep my 1% lows considerably higher and have stable enough fps to use a 360hz monitor if I choose so in the future.

When I play Premier, I start with around 300–400 FPS, but after a few rounds my FPS drops and caps at around 100.

I get like 300 fps in valorant 290-300 avg,i think the fps should be higher, the cpu is not bottlenecking, gpu cpu temps ar fine,cs2 on low about 240-270 avg.

For more CS2 performance yes for more AAA performance nah.

I play a ton of competitive game, most notably cs2s, and only use wireless (2,4 GHz) peripherals. Never going back.
