Pros

  • Another option if you really want just one warm coat might be Columbia. It's been 6 or 7 years since I bought one but they had some really good options.
  • Columbia or Outdoor Research. They have not on jumped on the cosplay outdoor adventurer yet. Still reasonably priced products.
  • For that cold I would opt for something more specialized such as North face, Patagonia, Marmot, Arc'teryx, Columbia, Fjallraven, etc.
  • I second Columbia for Canadian winter I got mine at an outlet store, it's not heavy but it's really warm - waterproof shell plus windbreaker. It takes me to -30 pretty well!
  • For polos and such shirts from Columbia, Greg Norman etc definitely will last multiple years no problem.

Cons

  • Parent context: love OR, Columbia's production quality/fit reflects price. Reply: love OR, Columbia's production quality/fit reflects price.
  • Columbia is low grade.
  • I've looked at a bunch of brands (Columbia, LL Bean, Landsend, REI, Patagonia) and I'm just so confused because it seems like no clothes should ever fit him
  • Columbia brand sportwear. A lot of good outdoor brands really were BIFL once upon a time, clothing was treated same as gear.
  • Eddie Bauer, Columbia, Rei, Toad and Co, L.L. Bean, Land's End
