Food in Colombia is generally mediocre.
I’ve been to Colombia twice in my former single gal life. I fell deeply in love with it. This trip is extra special because I get to introduce my kids and husband to the country! And I didn’t get to truly explore Medellin before, and it’s going to be an amazing city for kids.
I have been to Colombia multiple times and tried to love it, but it still hasn't worked out for me... for the same exact reasons you just stated.
Colombia is very cool (chimba) and has both the textbook Spanish accent and awesome Salsa culture so look into it!!

Latin America you have lots of options in Costa Rica, giant mountains in Ecuador, beautiful beaches and Lost City hike in Colombia, Machu Picchu in Peru, Patagonia in Chile and Argentina.
