Pros

  • Cold Steel has some great knives in S35VN you can find for under $100 like the Recon 1, Code 4, and American Lawman.
  • Cold steel recon 1. Thin, fairly light, tough as hell, fairly cheap, great heat treat, indescribable lock.
  • This video shows a Cold Steel Recon 1 failing at 450 pounds of force. If you're putting 450 pounds of force on a knife, well, don't do that, heh
  • My old Cold Steel Recon 1 looked even worse after 10 years of hard use! But, it still worked, even if it looked bad! 🤣
  • I would travel with a Cold Steel Recon 1 or American Lawman

Cons

  • Cold Steel Recon 1
  • Size/weight obviously. This isn’t an issue if you need this level of knife and accommodate carrying it, but for most people it’s just way too big for EDC. Action/fidget factor - for better or worse, people expect good action in their fol...

Parent context: The Recon-1 is also really good, but they are more than $100 now. Reply: I like the endura, the recon just takes a beating better on a construction site.

Maybe a cold steel recon 1 over the scout. ... Recon is definitely a hoss of a work knife. ... The Recon-1 is also really good, but they are more than $100 now.

Yeah it’s probably one of the best big folders on the market, especially for the money. It can do the same work as more expansive overbuilt folders.

Action/fidget factor - for better or worse, people expect good action in their folders these days (I’m definitely one of them) and while this one opens and closes just fine, it’s just not very satisfying compared to many other offerings.
