Codex Alera

Pros

• Its just a great story.
• Codex Alera after book 2 is fantastic and the romance is so well written. I wish this series got more love.
• I would say the strong point of the Codex Alera is following a competent character. It's quite satisfying watching Tavi grow, and while he make some bad decisions due to immaturity, he's satisfyingly written as a *smart* MC.
• Codex Alera is a good choice but takes a bit to form said power couples (a couple books). Still a good fit though.
• The first book is pretty good, and the rest are great. Fun world and cast. And best of all, it's not too long or too short - 6 good-sized books - and it's *finished*.

• In 2009 Jim Butcher, author of The Dresden Files and the Codex Alera series, was asked to write a "reboot" of the original trilogy.
• Codex alera base premise was the the whole "you can't write a story about that".
• The Pokemon + Roman legion thing is accurate for the very beginning of the series but it quickly abandons the Pokemon flavor in favour of just making it elemental magic and downplaying any role the furies have in it.
