City of Stairs, same author, is my current read it’s shaping up be similar in terms of intrigue.

City of Stairs also by Robert Jackson Bennet does a good mystery even if not quite as prominent as Tainted Cup

For example, City of Stairs was absolutely meant to be a standalone. All of his previous work had been standalone, and when you read CoS you can tell it was written with that in mind. But then it sold well and won awards!

City of Stairs! Bulikov is shattered when the gods (politely called divinities) were eliminated by their former subjects. The geography of the city is multi dimensional. There is also murder mystery, politics and a badass king in exile!!

If she likes mysteries and thrillers you should check out *City of Stairs* by Robert Jackson Bennett. It’s a great fusion of fantasy, murder mystery, and spy thriller.

The book had very good plot and characters, too- all of the characters were very fun to follow, and had their good nuances, and the plot was very compelling.
