I dislike to play against catalan because I play catalan as white and I pretty much know it almost perfectly and I always have great positions
I play D4 mainlines, with Catalan as my main opening. I am happy with my repertoire choices as white, what i didnt expect though was how daunting creating an opening file for white would be. I tried to restrict it to no more than 2 lines per variation so it could be a pseudo quickstarter and i could add reference games to it later. But for someone who reached 2100 with almost no theory in some lines and just played on general principles i was not expecting just how much all the various open and mainline catalan systems would be, alongside Bb4+ sidelines.
my white repertoire consists of trying to get a Catalan setup whenever I can. I play the mainline Catalan and also fianchetto against the KID and Dutch. I usually win games by slowly building up my position, totally restricting my opponents’ counterplay, and suffocating them.

I definitely would recommend the Catalan as it is perhaps one of the best tries against the QGD, you always get a very comfortable edge if you know your lines, and sometimes it's not a lot, but it usually feels bad for Black to play as they never fully equalize.
