Just keep in mind, highway 1 can get really tight and curvy around certain areas for a few miles. Can’t go above 15 mph in certain parts. They also have lots of construction in some areas where one side is closed off, so cars going in each direction have to wait for the other side to go first (there’s traffic control people here). Other than that, highway 1 is amazing!

This drive is spectacular, and will take you thru Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur and eventually through Santa Barbara. I'd recommend breaking up the drive by spending a night in San Luis Obispo. Highway 1 just re-opened last month to through traffic after it had been closed for a while due to storm damage. It is utterly spectacular.

Highway 1 fully reopened last month, so you should be all clear for the full run from Santa Barbara to Monterey (if all goes well with the rest of the storm season). It’s a stunning drive, but definitely twisty, so breaking it up is a smart move.
