If it helps any, we really enjoyed our time in Cairo, we had people approach but we didn't have troubles with anyone and even had some pleasant interactions even though we didn't buy anything. All except the airport experience, which was just chaos.
The harassment wasn’t as bad as all the posts and comments I’ve read on here but it’s still there. When you have a guide with you it’s mostly limited to people holding junk in front of your face to get you to buy it. When you’re alone it’s a good way more intense. In Cairo if you’re walking around you’ll have people trying to give you directions (for a tip) or pushy guides trying to get you to hire them.

Going out at night on the streets of Cairo never felt unsafe. We visited during Ramadan so lots of activity and great vibes all around.
