From a writing perspective, I would also recommend Cage of Souls by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It's set on a single planet that's orbiting a dying star. But the voice of the narrator feels very much like that of Hadrian Marlowe, so it occupies a similar headspace to me.

Just finished Cage Of Souls and loved it. Great world building, character development, and story beats.
I think the thing with CoS is that it introduces lots of little tidbits that never get explored and, although the *story* has a conclusion of sorts, there are so many unanswered questions about the world in general. I get why people would find that frustrating. For me, it sort of added to the charm
Cage of Souls completely hooked me in and I’ve been working through his bibliography since.
