Pros

  • Uzbekistan and southern/western Kazakhstan were not bad at all, and the weather meant there were not too many tourists in cities like Samarkand and Bukhara
  • Bukhara is very different from Samarkand.
  • The one I absolutely loved and would go back to in a heartbeat was Bukhara. What an amazing place.
  • Had a bit over a week exploring Uzbekistan's major sites: Samarkand - Bukhara - Khiva - Desert Fortresses - Tashkent in November 2025.
  • My original idea was to keep it simple and focus on Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara, travelling by train. This feels very straightforward and stress-free, and I know these cities are the core highlights of Uzbekistan.

Cons

  • I didn't go to Bukhara because it seemed like just more of Samarkand. Questionable decision.
