Boox Palma 2
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Boox Palma 2 is a highly portable, phone-sized e-ink device that users frequently adopt as a 'daily driver' for reading on the go. It is praised for its pocketability and its ability to reduce eye strain compared to traditional smartphones, though its high price point and narrow screen dimensions make it a polarizing choice compared to larger, dedicated e-readers.
Pros
- Extremely portable, phone-like form factor fits easily in pockets
- Android OS allows for high customization and use of various reading apps
- Includes a fingerprint sensor for easier unlocking (exclusive to the Palma 2)
- Features a warm light, speakers, and a microSD card slot
- Effective at reducing eye strain and headaches for users transitioning from phone reading
Cons
- High price point relative to its size and screen technology
- Narrow screen can feel cramped and less immersive for long-form reading
- Occasional reports of the device not being Play Store certified, hindering app logins
- Mixed feedback regarding screen responsiveness compared to standard smartphones
Caveats
- Users often miss larger screens (like the Kobo Libra or Kindle) for extended reading sessions
- The Boox software experience is described by some as less polished than competitors
- Durability and longevity are recurring concerns among potential buyers
Best for
- Commuters and travelers who need a pocketable device
- Users looking to reduce smartphone 'doom scrolling' while maintaining app access
- Readers who prefer narrow margins and a lightweight, one-handed experience
Avoid if
- You prefer a large, immersive screen for deep reading
- You are looking for a budget-friendly e-reader
- You find phone-sized screens too small for comfortable text consumption

I have the Supernote A5X (older version of Manta), BigMe B7 and Boox Palma 2 as well 😅 These are my 3 daily drivers
I own a Boox Palma 2 and a BigMe B7 and they both cannot login into the app because they are not Play certified.
Parent context: I wish I had the same experience. I so desperately wanted to love my boox palma but screen is not as responsive. Reply: Not as responsive as what? Another e-reader or a standard phone screen? Just trying to set my expectations appropriately
I also can't recommend the Palma if that's part of your reading since it's going to be too small to be comfortable.
I use a Boox Palma 2 (b/w) as my only e-reader and love it. Android makes it highly customizable but I choose not to put any doom scrolling apps on it. It's a little pricey for what it is I think, but using it as much as I do it's been worth it.
I have the Palma 2. I love it. Form factor is awesome. Battery life very long. Not an android user until I got it and it opens a lot of doors. I take it around town and when I travel. I read on it and the 300 ppi is crisp. Listen to music too with and without headphones.
If I didn’t already have a Palma 2 I would have probably put up with it.
I recommend Boox Go 7 over the palma 2. It's just a better reading experience in my opinion. I bought both the palma 2 and the go 7 a few weeks ago to try them out and I'm returning the palma 2. It's just not comfortable to hold or as nice to read on due to the narrow screen.
I like my Palma 2 and though I read a lot on it, my main use is as the screen in a Writer Deck.
Boox Palma 2, this seems super cool, the only thing im worried about is longevity with it and its durability, besides that it seems super cool
