Pros
- Some apps like Kindle or Bookwalker even have Google Translate built into the app.
- Parent context: Next up: I’m working on adding support for Yomitan dictionaries, and adding a PDF and manga mode. Currently working on adding Mokuro support as well as live OCR for online manga sites such as Bookwalker. Reply: live OCR f...
- Bookwalker has been the most reliable for me, can just pay via Apple Pay
- Its called bookwalker and you can access it outside of Japan but if you want access to the Japanese books you have to change the official language on your account otherwise you’ll just get the manga in English
- I get a lot of stuff from Bookwalker: https://bookwalker.jp/ Their selection is good, and there is no region restriction. They have samples, so you can see if the level is reasonable before buying.
Cons
- I’m currently mining vocab from BookWalker ebooks and Yomichan but it’s kind of a nuisance given the highlight restrictions and a few other things
- Bookwalker is hard to de-DRM.
- I found it on Bookwalker for purchase, 750 yen. If you don't know it, it's an alright website/app. The dictionary sucks tho (only allows Google translate)
- I am getting my books on Bookwalker and use an OCR tool combined with Yomitan for anki card creation, but I would like to streamline this process... Unfortunately, you can't always get the direct epub or pdf file of Japanese novels.

Been reading manga that's freely available on Bookwalker as practice
Been reading manga that's freely available on Bookwalker as practice and apart from the plot hitting maybe a bit too close to home... I've been struggling with this sentence
Bookwalker is available on Android for J-novels
Amazon Japan, Bookwalker, jump+. Lots of places to buy. Bookwalker also has 読み放題.
bookwalker.jp works if you're okay with using their integrated reader.
