Pros

  • I hit an insurmountable wall around 90 hours in and I'm sure I spent a lot more time just staring at my notes - but I enjoyed every minute.
  • Played this together with my girlfriend and it was an incredible experience. We used zero hints and at some point had a several GB large excel document with notes, screenshots, to-do lists and what not.
  • Overall, this was an incredibly tightly designed game that rewards you the more you play. You start out with no money and 50 steps. By the end I had more money than I could spend, and I was regularly filling every square in the house as...
  • I'd say Outer Wilds and Blue Prince.
  • Blue Prince discussion drives me mad because people always talk about how the RNG is super frustrating. But it just isn't. ... The game is just very deep. There are a lot of gameplay mechanics to learn and play with, and I adore how the...

Cons

  • I felt like Blue Prince was designed for a very specific type of person to have an amazing time with, which unfortunately wasn’t me. Like it’s the only game I’ve ever played where if you don’t have a second monitor then it’s almost unpla...
  • Reaching Room 46 (twice) is a lot of fun. Everything afterwards and all the rest is more of a chore to me. Probably great for oldschool puzzle fans.
  • Parent context: Blue Prince discussion drives me mad because people always talk about how the RNG is super frustrating. But it just isn't.  Reply: You said you have 140 hours in the game -- your experience of how much control you have ov...
  • The reviews that compared it to Outer Wilds set me up for disappointment, because I was there for the first-person exploration over the RNG grinding. ... Blue Prince doesn't get that privilege because it feeds into my bias against Roguel...
  • Blue Prince is amazing, but it can feel like two separate games: a puzzle game and a room-drawing roguelike. The roguelike unfortunately does not get easier even as you learn more about the game. If there were more ways to influence the...

I felt like Blue Prince was designed for a very specific type of person to have an amazing time with, which unfortunately wasn’t me. Like it’s the only game I’ve ever played where if you don’t have a second monitor then it’s almost unplayable. ... it can take 30 minutes to an hour to do one ‘run’ and you might not even find out any new info or do anything interesting that entire time, that’s a crazy amount of investment to expect out of a player.

Overall, this was an incredibly tightly designed game that rewards you the more you play. You start out with no money and 50 steps. By the end I had more money than I could spend, and I was regularly filling every square in the house as I tried to trigger my experiments as much as possible.

Parent context: Blue Prince discussion drives me mad because people always talk about how the RNG is super frustrating. But it just isn't.  Reply: You said you have 140 hours in the game -- your experience of how much control you have over the RNG is not comparable to most people's. I hit credits never with more than 3 or 4 rerolls at once. ... I think most people would argue they learned little, if nothing, from dead-ending, certainly after one or two dozen hours of play; and that they lost time, which is the common complaint.

Blue Prince discussion drives me mad because people always talk about how the RNG is super frustrating. But it just isn't. ... The game is just very deep. There are a lot of gameplay mechanics to learn and play with, and I adore how the puzzles give you more strength engaging with the roguelike mechanics.

The reviews that compared it to Outer Wilds set me up for disappointment, because I was there for the first-person exploration over the RNG grinding. ... Blue Prince doesn't get that privilege because it feeds into my bias against Roguelikes, That most of them are 5 hour games that stretch themselves to 20.

Blue Prince is amazing, but it can feel like two separate games: a puzzle game and a room-drawing roguelike. The roguelike unfortunately does not get easier even as you learn more about the game. If there were more ways to influence the RNG as you progressed, the game would be better overall.
