Bloodborne

Bloodborne is widely regarded as a masterpiece of the action-RPG genre, celebrated for its Victorian-Lovecraftian aesthetic, aggressive 'rally' combat system, and intricate, interconnected level design. While its atmosphere and trick weapon variety receive near-universal acclaim, the game is notoriously hampered by technical limitations, specifically a 30 FPS lock on console that frequently dips lower. While the PC community has made significant strides in emulation and modding to achieve 60 FPS and improved stability, these unofficial versions still face occasional issues like stuttering and VRAM leaks.
Pros
- Aggressive 'rally' combat system that rewards offensive play
- Deep and unique 'trick weapon' designs with high customization depth
- Masterful Victorian and Lovecraftian art style and atmosphere
- Interconnected and satisfying level design, particularly Central Yharnam
- Compelling and memorable character writing
Cons
- Locked at 30 FPS on console with frequent drops to 20 FPS
- Inconsistent boss quality, with some mandatory encounters cited as uninspired or having poor hitboxes
- Technical performance issues in emulation, including stuttering and VRAM leaks
- Can feel 'suffocating' and 'inscrutable' to some players
Caveats
- PC play currently relies on community-made emulation and mods (like Shadps4) which are in active development
- Performance on original hardware is often described as 'cinematic' 24 FPS rather than a stable 30 FPS
Best for
- Fans of challenging action-RPGs who prefer aggressive combat over defensive play
- Players who enjoy deep, atmospheric world-building and gothic horror
- Those looking for a more linear and interconnected experience compared to open-world titles
Avoid if
- You are highly sensitive to low frame rates or frame pacing issues
- You find claustrophobic, labyrinthine urban environments frustrating to navigate
- You prefer the slower, shield-based combat typical of other Soulslike games

the PC community has already taken things into their own hands by creating their own “Remake/Remaster through emulation and modding. It’s made tremendous progress within the last year.
BB does combat better.
my first experience was Bloodborne on the PS4 back in 2015 and got hooked immediately.
On the other hand, I loved Bloodborne. It felt snappy, agressive, the gun parry mechanic was good.
He was heavily inspired by the Soulsborne games, in particular Bloodborne, and their way of telling a story through reading every single item description.
As a huge fan of the Dark Souls/Elden Ring/Bloodborne video games it had a very similar atmosphere and style to it.
I loved the characters and story in this game. only Bloodborne out of all the modern Fromsoft titles captivated me more.
I started a second playthrough for Bloodborne after abandoning my first. It's been resonating with me a lot more this time around.
Having finished both the game and its DLC, years after feeling like Souls games unfortunately aren't for me, I can finally say I get it! It might still not be the perfect game for me, but *mannn* is this a good game! Super happy I played it.
I am a long-time Souls fan, with BB, Elden Ring, and Dark Souls 1 all in my top 15 games of time. The similar aesthetic to BB initially attracted me to this game - that Victorian England gothic horror feel is *chefs kiss*.
