AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Blip is a cross-platform file transfer service highly regarded for its speed and ability to send files across different networks, including cellular data. Users frequently compare it favorably to LocalSend, noting that Blip offers a more seamless "AirDrop-like" experience for Android and Mac users and can operate in the background without requiring the app to be active on both devices simultaneously.
Pros
- Supports transfers across different networks and cellular data, not just local Wi-Fi
- Fast and consistent transfer speeds between various operating systems
- Runs effectively in the background for increased convenience
- Simple, user-friendly interface that handles both files and folders well
- Strong cross-platform compatibility including Android, Mac, Windows, and iOS
Cons
- Not open source (proprietary software)
- Privacy concerns due to files potentially routing through company servers during remote transfers
- Reports of 'no internet connection' errors on some Android devices
Caveats
- Unlike some competitors, it is not FOSS and may require an account for certain features
- Data privacy is a noted concern among users because it is not open source
Best for
- Users needing to transfer files between Android and Mac/Windows
- Sending files when devices are on different networks or away from home Wi-Fi
- Those who find LocalSend's requirement to keep the app open too restrictive
Avoid if
- You prioritize open-source software for privacy and security
- You require a strictly local-only transfer tool that never touches external servers
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median age of approximately 309 days, so confidence is lower for a fast-changing app service.

Yeah huge bump for blip. Its really good and doesnt have any of the drawbacks that some of the others have for completely free for personal use.
Blip, I believe can transfer files without being on the same network as it will require you create an account. But it also has no transfer limits.
Super fast, cross-platform local file transfer app without cloud compression.
