Pros

  • I enjoy Metroidvanias and rated the first game as one of the best in the genre.
  • nothing mind-blowing like other Metroidvania efforts such as Hollow Knight, the Blasphemous series
  • Blasphemous and its sequel are another great example of such horror done realy well. ... The catholic imagery is also so insanely good, I love it. ... This game perfectly captures this horrifying side of religion
  • yes blasphemous is an awesome metroidvania
  • I much preferred the first game but I’m not sure if I could put my finger on why. I liked the bosses better for sure.

Cons

Parent context: I should give Blasphemous a try again, but I dread the platforming. It's already a genre I'm not fond of, but in this one I remember finding it particularly frustrating. Reply: Two of the first areas, Jondo and Grievance Ascends, are where the platforming is bogus. After that the Bloodstained levels are optional and best skipped.

Blasphemous is an oddball in the genre in that it has traversal upgrades, but they don't affect your move-set at all and are entirely optional towards completing the game... I've listed annoyance after annoyance above yet despite it all the game is more hits than misses. The level-design offers a shot of endorphin whenever you find a cool piece of loot or unlock a new shortcut. The game's greatest asset is its mood.
