Blacktail

I’m so excited for Hawkins’ next book, Blacktail, which is set for release in September 2026.

I just started it (on chapter 2) but I’m really enjoying seeing humans from the perspective of a wild animal, it’s definitely unique and while I liked about 60-70% of Mount Char I can already tell this is a better book.

**Blacktail** is sort of like Watership Down on crack. A story featuring only animal protagonists, dark, violent, funny at times, absolutely fucked at times.

I got an advanced copy and have gone through twice and am still working to put my finger on how to describe the tone/vibes. Your writing has a type of magic to it that makes the world of the story seem real but surreal at the same time.

Really liked this one. It went back and forth between having the tone of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale and the wolf version of John Wick. If you want brutal gory revenge mixed with a sprinkling of talking animals cursed by a witch cat to fart fire balls this is the right book for you.

Started listening to the audiobook early this morning. Loving it so far!

I got the chance to read an arc of Blacktail and it was AMAZING. It's told like a dark fairytale, very lyrical, very gruesome, has some truly horrific moments if you love animals. ... I highly highly recommend picking it up.

The premise of Blacktail sounds awesome, though. Can't wait for the revenge of wild animals.

Blacktail sounds like it could be just as original and creative as The Library at Mount Char was.
