Pros

  • Go look for a video of a high end exterior door producer, I think there are some recent-ish ones from Black Forest in Canada. The process is fairly complex but there is a reason for it.
  • Black Forest (more open/sandboxy, relatively rules light). Both play well at all their player counts and don’t have/require expansions
  • Owned both. Prefer Black Forest and that’s the one I still own. I would happily play Glass Road four player all day long. But it don’t quite scratch enough of an itch two player. Black Forest does that.
  • Black Forest feel grander, less directly interactive, and a bit more crunchy. You're doing some planning over where to move to next, which buildings to go for, with a bit heavier resource management. It feels more meandering and broadly...
  • I prefer the moving around the board and jobs in black Forest. Glass road felt a little tighter of a game.

Cons

  • I just gave Black Forest away to a friend because after playing both... my husband and I prefer Glass Road. The added complexity of Black Forest (and the somewhat annoying randomness of the jobs system) was less appealing to us.
  • A game with very little arc, as SU&SD said,a meander through the forest. They liked it, we didn't. Two plays, sold.
  • Black Forest is huge. You need a giant table. The rules of the game aren't too complicated - but there are a lot of buildings with special abilities, and you have to read them every time. It is very easy to have analysis paralysis. The r...

Black Forest feel grander, less directly interactive, and a bit more crunchy. You're doing some planning over where to move to next, which buildings to go for, with a bit heavier resource management. It feels more meandering and broadly strategic.

Played 3 times, not my favourite Rosenburg game, but solid. Kept for now.

I really enjoy Black Forest but "relaxing" is not a word I'd use to describe it. It's incredibly puzzly with all the resource calculations and doubly so as your wheels move automatically and then having to pay people or to move.

Black Forest is huge. You need a giant table. The rules of the game aren't too complicated - but there are a lot of buildings with special abilities, and you have to read them every time. It is very easy to have analysis paralysis. The resource wheel also requires some patience to learn. I think the game is fine, but it's much better at 3-4 players.
