Much-maligned Birmingham makes for an enjoyable city break (2 nights max.) and is near a load of other stuff that’s very ‘England’ in the best possible way, from a touristic point of view, whilst not being affected by over-tourism.
I agree with u/travel_ali that it's not the most interesting city for tourists, but I found the central area nice enough.
