AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X is a closed-back studio headphone frequently recommended for competitive gaming and professional monitoring. It is generally viewed as a more refined alternative to the classic DT 770, offering a smoother treble response and a sturdier build. However, user sentiment is mixed regarding its comfort—specifically its high clamping force—and its value proposition compared to newer or cheaper models using the same driver.
Pros
- Excellent performance for competitive gaming
- Smoother, less fatiguing treble than the older DT 770 series
- Sturdy and durable build quality
- Effective passive noise isolation
Cons
- High clamping force can be uncomfortable, particularly for those who wear glasses
- Technical frequency dip at 4kHz that some users find difficult to correct with EQ
- Mixed value compared to the DT 770 Pro X, which shares the same driver
Caveats
- The clamping force may require manual stretching over time to become comfortable
- Some users suggest that the cheaper DT 770 Pro X can achieve similar sound results with EQ
Best for
- Competitive gamers needing sound isolation
- Listeners who want the Beyerdynamic sound signature without the harsh treble spikes
Avoid if
- You are highly sensitive to headphone clamping pressure
- You wear thick-rimmed glasses that might break the acoustic seal or cause discomfort

Dt 700 pro x are great for competitive gaming.
Dt 700 pro x is the closed back version of the 900.
Parent context: Oh you're right! I didnt realize I had to twist it to unlock it. Thanks again. So from your experience, would you recommend I just get a longer cable for the HD 560S? Or do you think the DT 700 Pro X would suit his needs better? Reply: If he really wants to isolate sound then yeah a closed back. If he can live it (IMO he should try) an open back headphones.
then get the DT 700 Pro X, which is the exact same thing as the 900 X but it is closed back.

I've always used closed back headphones (DT 700 Pro X atm), but they recently broke
the 700 Pro X have a really bad dip at 4k that might be hard to correct with EQ.
700 is MUCH more enjoyable for everything because it doesn't have as high a treble as the 770.
Sound (preference), comfort, sturdier build. The 620s are definitely better for noise isolation tho, but that's due to the high clamp force
