I think the prose was very very good. The rest was whatever but it was so easy to just follow it through it made to for everything else.

Parent context: KLB is firmly in my “I’ll read whatever she puts out” camp. Reply: Same. I don't necessarily read horror novels to get spooked. I just like the genre. But this book sort of had me spooked. The images and the situational horror were fucking scary. The author also gets the impact of racism and violence across really well. It's a powerful book
It was all I could do to finish it. Just couldn’t get into the characters or story and found the writing to be thoroughly mediocre.
This is one of the best horror novels I have ever read. I can’t believe it isn’t more widely known.
