Audeze LCD-X
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Audeze LCD-X is a prominent planar magnetic headphone celebrated for its impactful bass, 'full' organic sound, and exceptional responsiveness to EQ. It is a staple for rock and metal listeners and is often used in professional mixing contexts. However, its reputation is equally defined by its extreme weight (over 600g), which frequently causes neck strain and comfort issues during extended sessions.
Pros
- Impactful, deep bass with significant 'slam' and texture
- Excellent detail retrieval and clarity, especially after EQ
- Highly responsive to equalization, allowing for diverse sound profiles
- Rugged, sturdy build quality with a premium aesthetic
- Strong performance for rock, metal, and cinematic audio
Cons
- Extremely heavy (612g), leading to neck fatigue for many users
- Stock frequency response can feel recessed or uneven without EQ
- High clamp pressure and ear pads that can become hot
- Relatively narrow soundstage for an open-back headphone
- Mechanical issues like loosening adjustment rods or ears touching the fazors
Caveats
- Applying EQ (such as Oratory1990 profiles) is considered essential by most of the community to fix stock tuning
- Comfort is the primary point of contention; weight is a dealbreaker for some but manageable for others
- Some users find competitors like the Hifiman Arya more comfortable and detailed in direct comparisons
Best for
- Rock and metal enthusiasts
- Users who enjoy 'slam' and impactful low-end
- Mixing and mastering professionals
- Listeners who already use and enjoy EQ software
Avoid if
- You have neck pain or sensitivity to heavy headphones
- You prioritize a wide, expansive soundstage
- You want a lightweight, 'disappearing' wearing experience

Love setting insane EQs with diabolical levels of sub bass and mid bass on them
Lcd x has better bass that arya organics. But you dont get anything else in terms of sound. Lcdx are built better but way heavier on the head.
Things like bass guitar lines would sound a little blurry or soft on the LCD-X and more defined and with body on the Arya. ... Yes, the LCD-X is as heavy as advertised. But it also has more clamp pressure and I did not enjoy how the clamp made the pads feel on my head/face.
Owned Arya Stealth and LCD-X at the same time and returned the LCD-X. LCD-X ergonomics were not a match with my head. Too heavy and too clampy. I also went back and forth testing individual passages of familiar music and could hear more detail in the Arya.
You can look at Audeze LCD-X as well if you want more bass
But for music production, these two and the LCD-X are by far the best regarded.
In contrast the lcd x soundstage is smaller and the voices are not as present but it packs a hell of a punch and bass also goes deep.
They sound fantastic but they are so heavy that I can't bear them over half an hour, all I can think about is my neck muscles.
That’s not my experience. My LCD-X sounds considerably better than my other cheaper headphones. I have custom EQ profiles for all of them.
