Antelope Canyon is widely described as a surreal and unique destination that is absolutely worth the trip for its stunning geological formations. It is a staple of Southwest road trips, frequently paired with Horseshoe Bend and the Grand Canyon, though users note the experience has become highly formalized with mandatory online bookings.
Pros
- Surreal and unique visual experience
- Excellent photography opportunities
- Conveniently located near Horseshoe Bend for easy pairing
- Highly recommended as part of a broader Southwest national park circuit
Cons
- Requires advance planning and formalized online booking
- Significant travel distance from major hubs like Phoenix or Las Vegas
Caveats
- Should not be prioritized over the Grand Canyon if time is limited
- Midday is specifically recommended for the best lighting conditions
- The experience is structured and may feel less like a traditional 'wild' hike
Best for
- Photographers
- Southwest road trippers
- Travelers visiting the Grand Canyon or Utah's national parks
Avoid if
- You prefer spontaneous travel without pre-booked tours
- You have very limited time and haven't seen the Grand Canyon yet

Antelope is extremely cool and absolutely worth the trip, but not at the expense of Grand Canyon.
Fly to Vegas and hit the 5 National Parks in southern Utah (Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, Arches) in order then drop down into Arizona and hit Monument Valley,Antelope Canyon+ Horseshoe Bend, Grand Canyon on your way back to Vegas.
24: Navajo Bridge early, Antelope Canyon midday
For me, Antelope is a great place to spend three+ hours.
We flew in and out of phoenix, spent a week in Sedona with a day trip to Antelope canyon and a day in Scottsdale, we had an amazing time. The whole area is so beautiful the landscape is so unique.
Antelope is quite a ways from Phx...and I I think it is pretty formalized now, online booking and such. The weather warms up a bit, not stifling up there but can be high 80s.
Check out the national parks over there: Zion, Bryce, Antelope Canyon, Grand Canyon and fly back to LA from Vegas. It's a cheap 45 minute flight and will save tons of time driving.
Day 4 – Tuba City - Horseshoe Bend - Antelope Canyon - Monument Valley - Moab.
Antelop with the horse shoe canyon near by early morning was awesome
