I really, really enjoyed Angel Down by Daniel Kraus. I found it gripping, incredibly readable and not too horrific (the graphic violence of war was confronting but tolerable).

Krauss breaks his into paragraphs so it doesn’t feel like a wall of text. I’ve read several one sentence novels over the years and this is the most friendly for more traditional readers.
