The big difference is that EXPO just has a few things specific to AMD CPUs in regards to infinity fabric clocks & voltages and a few other things that XMP doesn't touch. But should really affect operation or performance too much.
Have you tried disabling EXPO in your BIOS? The only way all of those modules will work is at a very slow speed.
My 32 gig kit was fine with xpo.
EXPO doesn't make sense (imho), if there's only so little to gain and so much to lose.
